Aleph to Beth

I am fascinated by the power of letters, and some of my academic research focused on aspects of the written and typed word, particularly the point in time our culture went from an acoustic, spoken world to that of the printed page.

The title Aleph to Beth refers to the origins of the alphabet, how sounds became symbols and symbols became letters. Adding to my zine passion project started in 2025, this was the next space of my practice that I wanted to explore.

I’ve used collage to illustrate these ideas, asking the viewer to make their own connections with the information contained in each page, and to explore how the abstract and the concrete live together, either in harmony or contrast - I place no value judgement on either state.

Beauty is always in the eye of the beholder.
